One anthology, one hundred writers.
I am part of a group of 112 writers that are trying to break the Guinness World Record for most authors contributing to an anthology. The previous record is held by a group of fifty people. We are trying to publish an anthology of a hundred stories by a hundred unique authors. The publisher and brain behind the whole operation is a South African from the Western Cape!
I’m super excited to participate in this event (and it’s totally not just because I think the certificate would look cool on my bedroom wall. Come on, what are you talking about?), but there is one small problem.
In order to be recognized for breaking the record we have to sell 1000 copies of the anthology. As far as I know the publisher, after some negotiation, has been able to divide it into 500 hard copies and 500 ebooks. It’s still quite a few books to be sold, especially if you take into account that we have to finish this before the end of September. And half the stories haven’t even been written yet. Yes, including mine!
So, if I can ask you guys a big favour, please support the anthology at this link.
Of course, I can’t guarantee the ‘kosherness’ of the other writer’s stories, but I guess you’ll have to make that decision for yourself.
What will I be writing about?
I decided on a story that has been floating around in my brain for quite some time. There are many things that I don’t know about it yet, that I’ll only know once I get down to writing the first draft.
Right now, this is what I know:
Hannah Tucker – a young widow and the main character of the story.
Andrew Lucas – her enstranged brother.
Rebecca ‘Becky’ Tucker – Hannah’s daughter. She’s two years old.
Jacob Nathaniel Doyle – the sheriff.
The Mutt – Hannah’s (extremely ugly) dog.
Chuck Nicholls – the bad guy.
The story is set in the American Wild West. Hannah’s husband was killed three years before the start of the story, before Becky was born. Hannah blames Andrew for her husband’s death, and after a bitter argument that ended in Andrew leaving town, they haven’t seen each other in a long time.
The story begins with Andrew breaking into Hannah’s house. He’s sick and wounded, half out of his mind with fever, but she insists on the sheriff arresting him for trespassing. She also refuses to nurse him in her home. The following night Becky is kidnapped by a killer with a grudge against the Lucas family. When Andrew regains consciousness it becomes apparent that he had returned to try and warn Hannah. Hannah and Andrew has to find some way to solve their differences, before Becky’s time runs out and Nicholls decides to make his next move.
